SIR: ‘I was zapping to find something on TV and decided to watch the BBC 1 programme - Greta Thunberg: A Year to Change the World. I’d seen the statue outside Winchester University and read what people have written to complain about it, so I thought it would be interesting to know more about what Greta is trying to do in this world.
Having lived in the Far East, Europe and Latin America I can understand some of the disasters of climate change that Greta has talked about. She is trying to get world leaders to do something before it’s too late! I and many others are concerned for the young and their future and was surprised that the students at the university complained about the £20,000 statue. Don’t they think that she is doing an amazing thing for the youth of today? Doesn’t she deserve recognition and publicity? If the 8,000 students at the university had contributed just £2.50 each they would have covered the cost of the statue. Or is it that they’d prefer to have half a pint of beer and some crisps at the pub across the way?!’
