TWO army cadets from an Overton platoon have been recognised for their fundraising efforts.

Corporal Ben Robinson and Lance Corporal Alec Painter were awarded the Commandants Charity Gold Medal for raising more than £1,360 between them.

The pair, of 4 Platoon Overton, Z Company, were presented with their certificates and medals by the county commandant, Colonel Andy Dawes at a recent annual inspection.

Cpl Robinson raised £760.91 on behalf of the Whitchurch branch of the Royal British Legion.

The 16-year-old said: “It was an opportunity for me to do something for a charity I truly believe in."

The pair raised money through a number of activities, including organising school non-uniform days and a fun run.

14-year-old L/Cpl Painter raised £600.82 for bereavement support charity for children, Simon Says.

He said: “I wanted to raise money for a charity that can truly make a difference and improve lives, everyone should get the same opportunities in life and I wanted to help make that a reality.”
