Steeple Langford v Wherwell.

KJM sponsored Wherwell travelled to Wiltshire to play Steeple Langford. The toss was crucial and Wherwell lost it and were made to bowl. Christian Nicel (1-22) got an early breakthrough but it was always going on a lovely batting track. Langford went from 90-2 from 27 overs to 270-6 from 45. In reply Wherwell lost Ed John and Craig Beckingham before Alex Gladwyn (55) and Stuart Taylor (74) both batted well but ran out of energy. Dave Langford 37no and Nicel 57no played well but couldn't quite get Wherwell to the total and ended up 256-4.

Wherwell II v Whitchurch II.

Wherwell were asked to bat on what appeared to be a good strip and openers Nigel Horne and Mick Ling started well and had made reasonable progress before Horne was well caught behind.

Ollie Emslie (19) took the score to 70 then Ling and Cray Sams, who continued his recent good form moved the score moved towards 150 with Ling looking set for a ton but it was not to be as he mis-judged the line and lost his off-stump for 87.

With a flurry of late wickets the home side closed on 168-5 with Sams 39no.

Afetr tea Emslie (3-14) picked up an early wicket and Anthony Barnes (2-37) also got some reward in his first league appearance of the season. Rob Weeks bowled a tidy spell picking up two wickets and Wherwell looked to have the match won but a late flourish from the tail took the game to the final over with the visitors needing 13 to win. Ling had the ball and with the field spread far and wide the veteran Wherwell skipper held his nerve and led his team to a six run victory.
