AN ANDOVER boxer held an open training session in town last weekend, ahead of his second professional fight.

Brandon Thomson worked out in front of a crowd of spectators last Saturday, at Walworth Business Park-based boxing gym, Box Andover.

The 20-year-old performed a variety of training exercises on the day, including a tough seven rounds working with practice pads.

Thomson also worked with his coach in some shadow-boxing before stopping to take pictures with spectators.

Talking about the day, Thomson said: “It was really good.

“Quite a few people came out. It was a good turnout.

“It was nice because I train in Devizes normally, so it was good to be able to show a few more people who I am.”

The open event was part of the 20-year-old’s training regime ahead of his next fight against Southampton’s Billy Parker next month The pair will go head-to-head at Portsmouth nightclub, Liquid, on April 1.

Thomson was originally scheduled to fight boxer Josh Thorne, but his opponent recently pulled out of the fight.

The 20-year-old will now face seasoned professional Parker, 33, who has fought eight times in his career so far.

Despite the gulf in experience, Thomson, who has fought just one professional bout, believes he has enough to overcome his opponent.

He said: “My trainer feels comfortable that I should beat him.

“I’m probably in the best shape I have ever been in and I’m close to my weight already this training camp.

“I’m 100 per cent confident that I will win.”

If Thomson boxes his way to victory next month, he will maintain a currently perfect start to his professional boxing career.

Thomson broke onto the scene last year with a points win over London based Jack Green last September.

He was due to take the ring for his second professional fight last year, but the event was cancelled in the build-up.
