ANDOVER New Street kicked off 2018 in fine style as they won 3-1 at Ringwood Town to extend their lead at the top of the Wessex League Division One.

The leaders started well and a Gunner Yates run saw him feed Jazz Beavis, whose shot hit the upright.

New Street then took the lead after 28 minutes after Gunner Yates as the provider for Zach Hine to score.

They doubled their advantage after a New Street was bundled over during a corner and Callum Sweeney made no mistake from the spot.

Five minutes after the interval, they put the game to bed as Jazz Beavis scored.

The home side pulled a goal back on the hour mark from Ben Harris, who beat stand-in goalie Alex Thompson, after Tasker was injured in the warm-up.

New Street are in action on Saturday in the Wessex League Division One with a trip to Fawley.

New signing from Overton Luke Neller goes into the squad, while centre half Jacob Wise has joined Overton.

A delighted New Street boss John Smith said: "It was another good performance from the boys and keeps us on top of the pack. After Fawley we have two big games against Christchurch and Tadley Calleva. so it is important we get three points."
