ANDOVER New Street will open their Wessex League Premier Division campaign away at Bashley on Saturday, while Andover Town are at home to AFC Stoneham in Division One.

The side’s met last Saturday at Portway, New Street taking the honours with a 3-1 victory.

In the 11th minute, Gunner Yates gave New Street the lead with a long shot from outside the penalty area.

Then 10 minutes later New Street were awarded a penalty, which fortunately for the home team, was put way over the bar by Callum Sweeney.

Even before the crowd had settled down in the stand after the break New Street had scored their second from Sweeney and soon after Yates made it 3-0.

Shaquille Gwengwe scored for Town with a sweet shot.

New Street manager John Smith said: “We are now ready for the season and we will see what we can down down at Bashley."

Andover director Ian Carr said: “We have had a roller coaster of a summer with out sponsors pulling out and not being able to go into the Southern League. We now have an exciting young team and all the club are looking forward to the season.”
