ANDOVER New Street first ever game in the FA Cup ended with a superb 4-0 home win over Romsey Town.

The game was a very even affair to start with as expected as top Wessex Division One side Romsey fancied their chances of an upset against the newly promoted Premier Division side.

However, the home side broke the deadlock after 27 minutes as Zach Neve scored with a nice strike into the bottom corner.

For the second half Romsey were now kicking down the slope and the home side were forced to make a chance with Danny Urry came on for the injured Callum Sweeney.

New Street extended their lead on 57 minutes as Neve scored his second and this was followed by the goal of the game just before the hour mark.

This came from Shane Lock, after a nice one-two from Urry.

At this point the home side took control of the game and Luke Neller added a fourth, eight minutes from time from distance to complete a 4-0.

The victory earned the club a trip to Portsmouth's Southern League side Moneyfields in the preliminary round tie on Saturday August 25.

A delighted New Street manager John Smith said: "To be fair we started slowly and once we went 2-0 we were in control. I hope we can take the confidence from this win and start picking up some points in the league now."

Last Wednesday, New Street suffered a 2-1 reverse in their home opener against Shaftesbury.

Having gone a goal down after 15 minutes, Sweeney levelled things just before the break.

However, the visitors scored the winner from the penalty spot on the hour mark.

Talking about this loss Smith said: "I felt we deserved a point from the game from Shaftesbury, but it was not to be ."

They will hope it is third time lucky on Saturday, when they face a visit from Lymington, who have opened their campaign with two draws.

Smith said: "Lymington will be another tough team, but we did beat them in the cup last season, so hopefully we can do it again and get our first league points on the board."
