AFTER the disappointment of the MotoGP event being cancelled at Silverstone Jake Archer is looking forward to further increasing his championship lead in the Hel Performance British Motostar Championship.

The Andover racer currently leads the British Moto3 series by 50 points with 150 points still to play for.

Due to the problems experienced at Silverstone on GP weekend, where standing water forced the cancellation of the GP, the organisers of British Superbikes, of which Motostar forms a part, have decided to race on the national circuit at Silverstone.

The 1.64-mile national circuit takes in Maggots before turning left on to the National straight rejoining the full circuit at Brooklands.

As the length of the lap has been reduced the number has been increased.

The race on Saturday will be for 18 laps whilst the Sunday race will see the riders complete 22 laps.

Archer said: “It’s a shame we can’t ride the full Silverstone circuit as I really enjoy it. Most of the young riders dream to race that circuit but in the circumstances the organisers think it would be best to use the national circuit and avoid potential problems.

"I’ve never ridden the national circuit and I expect it will be new for most of us so that will be an interesting challenge.

"The GP weekend was a real shame especially after so much effort went into organising it. I need to thank Ryan Saxelby, Kovara Projects and City Lifting for getting us there. This weekend I want to thank them by trying my hardest to come away with another two race victories.”

Andover rider Jake Archer is hoping for better luck this weekend, looking to further increasing his championship lead in the Hel Performance British Motostar Championship.

Archer currently leads the British Moto3 series by 50 points with 150 points still to play for. Due to the problems experienced at Silverstone on GP weekend, where standing water forced the cancellation of the GP the organisers of British Superbikes, of which Motostar forms a part, have decided to race on the national circuit at Silverstone.

At Silverstone during the MotoGP weekend, in free practice, although rain threatened to dampen the second session on Friday it held off enabling the Moto3 riders to reduce their lap times.

Archer managed to cut his lap time by more than 2.5 seconds from the first session finishing with a time of 2:19.771.

Saturday’s qualifying conditions were far from ideal in the morning.

After some initial laps Archer entered the pits to make some changes to the bike set-up. With around 23 minutes remaining he left the garage and put in a couple of laps to warm up the tyres and pick up his pace.

Unfortunately, the rain then began to fall and the riders returned to the boxes.

With less than 10 minutes remaining the riders began to venture out again. Although cool a strong wind was helping to dry the track. Out on slicks Archer managed to reduce his best lap time to 2:17.227 and would start the race 30th.

However, heavy rain saw all the races cancelled.
