ANDOVER'S Jake Archer will travel to Oulton Park this weekend knowing if he beats his title rival Storm Stacy he will clinch the Hel Performance British Motostar crown.

This was after the rider left Silverstone in a commanding position in the championship, leading by 60 points.

Racing on the national circuit at Silverstone, Archer dug deep to take a narrow win in the first race and in the second he managed to open a gap in the final laps to take his second victory of the weekend.

Drizzle fell during qualifying making the track conditions difficult for all the riders.

Unusually, Archer qualified down in fifth position for race one 0.766 seconds behind the quickest rider in the damp conditions.

Confident of his pace in the dry and with a 50 point lead in the championship going into the weekend there was little point in pushing too hard and suffering a fall.

The first race was enthralling with the lead changing regularly early on. Archer made a superb start moving up to third on the opening lap.

On the fourth lap he overtook both Stacey and City Lifting teammate Jack Scott to take over the race lead.

Stacey and Archer regularly exchanged the lead as they headed a group of five riders.

On lap 10 a crash saw the group split giving Archer, Stacey and Scott a gap at the front.

Stacey re-took first position on lap 12, before Archer regained it the following lap. Archer then held first place until the chequered flag but it wasn’t easy.

The three riders crossed the line within three-tenths of a second after 18 laps.

The second race was 22 laps and Archer started third on the grid but led by the end of the second lap.

The race started as a continuation of race one with Archer hotly pursued by Stacey and Scott. The three managed to breakaway relatively early on.

Stacey again swapped the lead with Archer and City Lifting teammate Scott was also in the mix.

With seven laps remaining Archer managed to open a gap of three-tenths of a second over the chasing two. He then slowly applied the pressure, edging away lap after lap until he crossed the finish line first and with a margin of 1.3 seconds.

Archer said,” We done what we come here to do. I was hoping to come here and possibly take some points out of Stacey. So to come away with a double and take another 10 points out of him is ideal. I’d like to thank City Lifting, Ryan Saxelby, Kovara Projects, Euroclad, Radmat, Sureweld and Safety Industrial who keep me racing.”
