ANDOVER New Street were beaten 5-0 on home turf last Saturday against Alresford Town.

The home side had beaten the visitors last month in the final of the North Hants Senior cup, but were missing some of their key players through suspension, injury and illness for this clash.

This absence of core players proved too much for New Street as they failed to contain the visitors.

Surprisingly, New Street were only one goal down in the first half courtesy of Alresford’s Lukas McCartney. However, the second half saw a poor performance from Street and the visitors punished them with four more goals. New Street were left dejected and bitterly disappointed with the end result during a crucial time in the season.

A disappointed John Smith said after the game said: "We were hit again this week with an absence of key players. Suspensions and injuries cost us this week.”

New Street have three more league games left, but the bottom side's fate has already been sealed.

On Wednesday night, they have their final home game of the season against Baffins Milton Rovers.

On Saturday, they away at Team Solent and then on Tuesday night face a short trip to Andover Town for a Andover Open Cup semi-final.

The final is on Wednesday April 24 at the Portway Stadium with Andover New Street Swifts awaiting the winners.
