THE Scorpion Judo Club were the most successful club at the Southern Schools Championships in Basingstoke.

In total 17 fighters from the novice Scorpions took part and they returned with 17 medals between them.

This massive haul included nine golds as the Andover club won the trophy for most successful club.

The children fought amazingly well and we were proud of them representing .

The club now look forward to helping them build on their skills and cannot wait to see what the future holds for them.

Also last month Harriet McRae won a national silver medal at The British Schools Championships, held in Sheffield at the English Institute of Sport.

To qualify fighters had to win through the regional rounds to be able to attend these National Championships.

In the finals, Harrow Way pupil McRae fought extremely hard winning three out of four fights to take a podium for the third year running.

The club has had a great start to 2019 with the British Judo Associations ‘Judo Tots’ successfully starting in January.

This has proved to be very popular, it is judo based activities and games which helps build both physical and mental skills ensuring long term player development.

The club love teaching their Scorpion Tots aged three to five years old, all about how much fun judo can be and encourage them to understand the judo code.

The Wednesday adult and senior session has also seen a doubling of numbers this year.

Judo is a sport that can be adapted to any ability, which is why it has been so popular with adult members.

The encourage all parents to come along and try a session.

Scorpion Judo has been based at Augusta Park Community Centre for three years now and is always growing.

They are a non-profit making club and are very proud that every penny we raise gets reinvested back into the club.
