WHERWELL continued their Hampshire League County Division Fourth North promotion push as they beat visiting Hook and Newnham Basics IV by seven wickets.

KJM Sponsored Wherwell won the toss and elected to bowl against side three places below them in the table at the start of play.

The home side started superbly, keeping the run rate down and taking wickets constantly.

This display limited the visitors to 132-9 in 45 overs.

Only resistance coming from Michael Dyer with 25 runs and Tony Robson who scored 22.

Wherwell bowlers Oliver Emslie, Mike Cutts and Matt Cutts all helped themselves to two wickets each.

Wherwell in reply chased the target of 132 down in 29.3 overs ending on 133-2.

Mike Cutts started off strongly with 18 runs in the first four balls he faced with four, four, six and four.

However, It did not last long as he was bowled by Andrew Hook for 24.

After losing a couple more wickets, Emslie and Alex Gladwyn carried on their good form with the bat with an unbroken fourth wicket stand as both finished not out on 36.

This weekend, Wherwell are away to Littleton and West Hill next week and their latest win keeps them in fourth spot in the table.
