ANDOVER New Street beat local rivals Andover Town after a penalty shoot-out in the side’s annual charity game at Foxcotte Park last Saturday.

New Street edged a very competitive game in aid of prostrate cancer between the Wessex League Division One rivals 5-4 in the shoot-out after it finished 0-0, as Ilyas Warshow scored the winning penalty.

New Street completed their pre-season with a 4-0 win over an Eastleigh XI on Tuesday night as Luke Hooper grabbed a brace and Shane Lock and Warshow were also on target.

Next up for the side who were relegated last season is a tricky looking home league opener against US Portsmouth on Saturday and then on Tuesday night they are away at Verwood.

Looking ahead to the season manager John Smith said: “Pre-season has gone well and we are really looking forward to season and I want to get off to a good start.”

A week on Saturday, New Street are in FA Cup action at Bemerton.

Meanwhile, Andover Town are also in home action to start their second campaign in Division One and there young squad is sure to be able to build on last season.

Town open with two home games the first is against Totton and Eling on Saturday followed by one against Romsey on Tuesday night who just missed out on promotion last term.
