HONOURS were even last week as Whitchurch United drew 2-2 with visiting Andover Town.

It extended Town's recent unbeaten league run to three games and moved them up to eighth in the Wessex League Division One table, while the Jam Boys are in fourth place.

It was the visitors who very much the better of the first 45 minutes last Wednesday.

Town had the first chance from Owen Trapnell as his 30-yard effort was saved by Konrad Szymaniak and the goalkeeper soon after pushed a low drive from Tom Pattison around the post.

The home side’s first threat on goal came from a throw in, awarded though the ball did not go out of play, from which Ryan Long fashioned a chance for Declan Shuttleworth only for Keiron McHardy to save.

The visitors were enjoying more of the possession and after Zach Hine’s shot was straight at the goalkeeper, Harrison Hale put a free header over the bar.

The pressure was rewarded after 23 minutes when Ben Emans’ pace took him from his own half to the corner flag before being fouled. The free-kick was sent in low and hard to the area and Pattison’s clever flick beat the home goalkeeper at the near post.

Whitchurch’s Ryan Long’s cross saw a frantic goal mouth scramble and then soon after Trapnell tried another 30 yarder.

After the break, Whitchurch’s Declan Shuttleworth stretched to meet a Charlie Plumbley cross but it went over the bar.

Shuttleworth then received a harsh booking for blocking a free-kick.

Andover doubled their advantage thanks to a cleaver lob by Ruben Smith.

Whitchurch’s Robbie Henderson was then sent to the sin bin and 10 men rapidly became nine, when Shuttleworth was harshly sent-off after he closed down the visiting goalkeeper.

Undeterred Whitchurch took the game to the opposition and pulled a goal back through Long.

He picked the ball up 10 yards inside the Andover half and finished his run by placing the ball calmly past the advancing McHardy.

With six minutes still left. Whitchurch scored again as Wood closed down the visiting goalkeeper and hooked the ball in around the post to make it 2-2.

Andover this Saturday are at home to promotion chasing Bemerton Heath Harlequins and on Wednesday night they are away at Totton and Eling.

On the same day, Whitchurch are also at home when Romsey make a visit to Longmeadow.
