ANDOVER New Street kept up their push for a straight return back to the Wessex League Premier Division at the first attempt with a magnificent seventh straight win thanks to a 2-1 victory away at Ringwood last Saturday.

Matt Scott and recent signing Rafael Ramos were the men on target for the visitors, while Harrison Clark scored the lone goal for the Ringwood.

New Street had hoped the close gap further on the sides above them in the Wessex League Division One on Tuesday night, but their game at New Milton Town was postponed, due to the weather

This leaves New Street in fifth spot in the table, three points behind top side Alton with two games in hand.

These two sides clash this Saturday at Foxcotte Park in mouth watering clash, which could see New Street take over top spot.

Last Saturday, Alton faced a visit from seventh placed Whitchurch, which saw the home come out on top 3-0.

The home side took the lead thanks to Scott Sanderson with a low shot on the turn.

Alton doubled their advantage before the interval thanks to a penalty.

Whitchurch goalkeeper Will Barnett brought down Liam Knight.

Phil Moore made no mistake from the spot to make it 2-0 to the home side.

After the re-start the Jam Boys had their best spell of the game with Ryan Long setting up Nick Yeomans which forced Alton goalkeeper Justin Courtnage into a full length save.

Yeomans then tried to lob the home goalie and later on the same player had another chance, but his effort went just wide of the post.

Luke Perkins completed the scoring with Alton's third.

This Saturday, Whitchurch are at home to Petersfield, then on Saturday, December 28, they are away at Totton and Eling, while New Street have a trip to Romsey.

After Petersfield were beaten by Eastleigh on Tuesday night in the Hampshire Senior Cup, New Street are the lowest rank team left in the competition which is now at the quarter-final stage.

Along with New Street and Eastleigh, Moneyfields, Bashley, AFC Bournemouth are into the last eight. The three remaining third round ties to be played next month are Gosport v Havant, AFC Stoneham v Sholing and AFC Totton v Southampton.
