Andover’s third XI made it two wins on the bounce with victory over Godshill on Saturday.

After a stunning bowling display had powered Ben Black’s side to a comprehensive win over Damerham the week before, the skipper had no hesitation in bowling first on an overcast day in the New Forest once again.

And, although Godshill proved resolute – with Alan Cousins (45), Chris Wyver (30), and Jason Cooper (38) giving the hosts a solid start – Andover’s depth of bowling attack won out and the hosts were all out for a below-par 170.

The pick of the bowlers was Sandeep Nail with figures of 4-41, but he was ably assisted by Hugo Orange (2-19) and Angus McMahon (3-30).

Andrew Blatchford recorded 0-21, Thuva Tharma 0-37 and Jay Mann 0-16.

In reply, Andover were always up with the run rate and never looked in too much danger.

Opener Chris Hooper led the way with 65 not out, and he was well supported by Hugo Orange with 26 and Brendan Clarke with 16.

An entertaining late flourish from McMahon (37 not out) got Andover to a six-wicket win with five overs to spare.

Up next is Winterbourne’s first XI at home, to be played tomorrow afternoon.
