Andover New Street moved in to the second round proper of the FA Vase with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Western League Premier Division side Street, despite falling behind early in the game.

The visitors were first to attack with a Ross Cook shot that was too high before the home side forced a corner of their own after five minutes.

The kick was helped on at the near post and the tall Jake Horsey swept the ball home from the edge of the six-yard area. (1-0)

But New Street levelled in the 27th minute when Davis took the corner from the left and skipper Matt Scott volleyed home at the far post. (1-1)

A Shane Lock shot was deflected wide with a goal kick awarded, but Lock was not to be denied as Cook turned an Eddie Perrett ball into his path and he found the bottom corner from some 20 yards. (1-2)

Street had the chance of an equaliser immediately upon the restart, but leading scorer Harry Foster was foiled by a superb save from O’Brien and it was New Street who struck again with eight minutes gone.

Harry Lawton picked the ball up in midfield and strode through the middle before finding Cook who lifted the ball in to the roof of the net from just inside the area. (1-3)

Liam Hibberd broke up an attack and his slide rule pass must have travelled some 30 yards before Cook fastened on to same and fired across the keeper and inside the far post. (1-4)

Aaron Moore replaced the tireless Josh Moore as New Street regained the majority of the possession and pushed forward.

A back pass from a home defender was some 20 yards wide of his keeper, leading to another corner, and Lock’s kick to the far post was headed home unchallenged by Scott Hassell. Darryl Phillips and George Plank replaced Cook and Hassell and the visitors saw out the remaining minutes without any problems.

This was a superb performance by New Street, away from home and against a side playing one level higher.
