Speaking to the BBC after the race, Charles said: “I’d say 99.9 per cent of (the race) was perfect. We had a bit of a duff stroke on stroke one, and that really scared us.
“But I think, when you have a bit of a duff stroke, it fires you up to 120 per cent and we shot out of the start like a rocket and never looked back.”
This is Charles's second Olympic medal after he secured bronze in Tokoyo 2020.
The GB Rowing Team is supported by the National Lottery Sports Fund. To find out more, and to follow the team, head to britishrowing.org.
