LONGPARISH Cricket Club were beaten in the opening round of the National Village Knockout Competition after a 39-run defeat to Winchester-based Tichborne Park.

Southern League Division Two side Tichborne batted first, putting together a total of 179-7 thanks to a well crafted 51 from Jack Skinner.

Under 16 Scott Sturt performed well in the Longparish attack, taking 3 for 34 while Harry Martin took 2 for 35.

The Longparish reply suffered for the loss of early wickets, but a middle order rally from Matt Jackman, 34 and George Kousseff, 17 kept hopes high.

The reintroduction of Will Allam to the Tichborne attack proved decisive, as he picked up wickets with successive balls to finish with 3 for 28 to secure a 39-run win for Tichborne.
