I AM writing regards the letter from Brian Forrest (Letters, September 7).

It was nice to hear good things written concerning Miss Brock. She was very controversial to say the least.

However, all she really wanted was for kids to work hard and to get the best out of life.

Brian covered most of her life as we remember quite accurately. My one memory that she gave me was to use my eyes.

One little correction to Brian’s letter and that being, it was Margaret Saunders who went to Grammar School, not Susan, although big sister did just miss out.

I was one of four from Miss Brocks education who kept in touch with her until she passed away. She eventually lived in Poole and we visited her quite regularly. Those visits were an education in itself. We took her for lunch and it was just like being children again! Her memory was amazing, and I think she was still teaching us.

I sometimes think today that I am who I am partly because of Miss Brock; she got you to look at the bigger picture. This larger than life lady passed away in her 90s after an outstanding life.
