I READ Councillor Roy Perry’s article with interest (Advertiser, September 21, ‘Pay a pound to save services, says leader’: he suggests asking residents if they will pay a fee to keep a service open.

A decision will be made on October 9 at Wiltshire Council’s cabinet meeting on the proposal to close Everleigh recycling centre.

As a reader of your paper living in the Tidworth/Ludgershall area I would welcome the idea of paying one pound to be able to continue using Everleigh. If the site closes I will have to drive to Amesbury, Salisbury or Marlborough: adding to air pollution on my way, and congestion at the site I have chosen.

Wiltshire’s Core Strategy (adopted January 2015) has a key outcome for: ‘A sustainable pattern of development … and a reduction in the need to travel, will have contributed towards meeting climate change obligations’.

More houses are being built at Tidworth and Ludgershall some for rebased Army families and some for civilians: this will result in over 1900 new households in the area by 2026.

If you are affected by the planned closure of Everleigh write to your local councillor and ask her or him to vote to keep Everleigh open on October 9.
