WINTON Community Academy has appointed its first school prefects in several years.

The 12 Year 10 students will now wear a new uniform with specially-designed ties, blazers and badges.

Pupils will have a variety of responsibilities and be ambassadors for the student voice.

The 24 applicants put themselves forward for the position with references from both teachers and students and were then interviewed.

Staff conducted 15-minute interviews with all of the pupils to let them experience a work environment preparing them for college and job interviews.

Prefects will spend a day training for the duties that will continue throughout Year 11.

Staff at Winton hosted a presentation evening to celebrate the appointment of the prefects.

Tom Cox and Alice Stone were appointed as head boy and head girl by the principal and their head of houses.

Principal Sharon Watt said: “One of my tasks was to raise aspirations in this school and you couldn’t get more aspirational than this group of fine young people.”
