TECHNOLOGY-based care that helps people remain independent in their own homes for longer has proved popular in Hampshire with take up exceeding expectations.
So far 1,200 people have benefited from the technology in the first six months of a new contract – around 900 more than projected.
Now Cllr Liz Fairhurst, executive member for adult social care has agreed to double investment to up to £20.7 million.
Telecare uses wireless sensors to help people remain independent in their homes. Systems include automatic fall alarms, medication dispensers and sensors that can tell if a frail person is up and active or not.
