WHITCHURCH Town Council could hire equipment from Overton to set up its own Speedwatch group.
Overton secured a £1,000 grant from the Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner’s fund to buy the equipment last month and Whitchurch has already inquired about hiring it.
At an Overton Parish Council meeting Councillor Dr Tom Ridler described the idea as “a nice earner” but added that Overton “must get our act together with it first”.
The scheme allows the parish to monitor traffic speed and report back to the police, who can issue warning letters to those caught speeding.
