IT MAY have been pushed back a fortnight, but that didn’t stop Whitchurch residents gathering at the Silk Mill last weekend to witness the crowning of a new carnival queen.
Over 300 people turned up to the belated May Day celebrations, which had been delayed due to bad weather.
However the Whitchurch Festival Association, who organised the event with staff from the Silk Mill, were determined that the event would still take place.
Katie Paterson, 14, was crowned carnival queen and her princesses are 14-year-old Lucy Carpenter and 13-year-old Caera Watts.
Katie helped choose the best fancy dress costume winners, with Louis and Sofia Rodrigues scooping the top prize.
