A GROUP of Overton residents have taken to the streets in protest after a developer submitted plans for 200 new homes in the village.

Protestors, named the ‘NOrth Field Group’, lined up with banners, signs and posters in the centre of the village to demonstrate against Dandara’s outline planning application for a site, known locally as the ‘Great North Field’.

The intention of the demonstration was to raise awareness of the application and encourage other residents to write in objecting to the plan.

The protest comes after Dandara submitted their planning application to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council last Friday for permission to build 200 class C3 dwellings on the site.

Dandara have stated that of the 200 properties, 80 will be ‘affordable’ with the developer proposing that 70 percent be on a rent basis and the remaining 30 percent be a shared ownership tenure split.

The development will also include road access via Kingsclere Road as well as open public space and a 65sqm ‘home work hub’.

Chair of the Overton Society, Valda Stevens, is one of the residents involved in the group.

She said: “The NOrth Field Group are circulating a leaflet to properties in Overton alerting them to the application.’’

Rachel Allwood, planning director at Dandara, said: ‘We have submitted an outline planning application to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council after reviewing feedback from two stages of consultation.’’
