TWO businesses have thrown their backing behind a football club for youngsters.

Wherwell-based Shooters FC was founded in 2009 to provide a safe and fun environment for boys and girls of all ages to get involved with playing football.

Now, to help with funding, which can be a problem at the grassroots level of football, Andover Glass Works Ltd and Personnel Selection have thrown their support behind the club.

They have provided funds that have allowed the club to provide playing kit, training kit and winter jackets for their players.

Ben Clark, girls football development co-ordinator at the club, said: “This support has been gratefully received and everyone involved with the club would like to thank them.”

Shooters FC is looking to expand its girls section to give even more opportunities to youngsters in the area to aid their sporting development.

Mr Clark added: “With the growing success of the England ladies football teams and professional women’s sport in general, Shooters FC are in a great position to provide a platform that will set these young players on a path to success.”

As part of this, this year, to aid the girl’s development, they have been entered into the Winchester girl’s league with the hope this will provide an opportunity for all of them to develop their skills while playing against other teams.
