A LONG-SERVING farmer has been awarded at a Royal show for his years of dedication to agriculture.
John West was given the accolade for Long Service in Agriculture at the Royal Bath and West Show on May 30.
John has worked on various farms since the age of 16.
He moved from working on a farm in Berwick St James, Wiltshire, in 1968 to a farm in Kimpton, near Andover.
This is where John worked until retirement in 2003, but he has continued to do various jobs on the farm when required.
John was nominated for this award by his former work colleague Cyril Emms, while working at the farm in Berwick St James.
Speaking after the award’s ceremony Cyril said: “John was the best man he could ever wish to work with.”
John’s daughter, June Mitchell said: “I’m extremely proud, our whole family are so proud of him.”
