A PUB that has built a reputation for its involvement with local causes has planned a four-day musical extravaganza.

The Crown Inn, in Ludgershall, have a jam-packed Bank Holiday Weekend in store as Crown Fest returns for the second year.

Over the weekend 28 bands, most of whom are local, are putting on a show to raise money for charity.

Throughout the year the pub has focused on supporting several causes, including the project to build a war memorial garden in the town and Jessie’s Ride, who are raising money for MIND in memory of Jessica Davies.

Landlord Shawn Smith said: “I’ve always had this image of a pub being a community pub and as part of that not only do you know everything that’s going on in the village or you help everybody in the village, but you also help charities.

“We are looking to support anything that is a worthwhile cause that can have an impact.

“Jessie’s Ride is sort of coming to an end for us now, it’d be nice to find other charities that we can work with. Especially youth charities or charities that sort of get looked over a little bit.

“You find sometimes that there’s local charities you’ve never heard of because they’re just not pushed into the front line a little bit.

“We’ve done a lot of stuff with Jesse’s ride, we’ve done a lot with it including a ‘Man vs Food’ challenge, and supporting the cycle ride. They cycled London to Amsterdam and we done exactly the same in the pub on exercise bikes. So we got all of our locals to literally do the same and it was cycle a mile for Jess.”

The line-up includes acts such as Electric Eden, Jake Ward, Less Is More and Georgina Agombar.

Alongside music, the festival will have dedicated bars for Prosecco, gin and pizza. There will also be entertainment, such as facepainting, for children.

With high hopes that the event will trump last years effort, Shawn said: “It’s quite big! It is the second year and God knows what next years one’s going to be like.”

The free event will take place from August 24 to 27, for more information search for The Crown Inn on Facebook.
