TORRENTIAL rain downpoured over the weekend but the sun came out for St John Fisher’s summer fete on Saturday.
More than £2,000 was raised for the Bell Street Catholic church in Whitchurch, with people trying their luck at the tombola, cake raffle, wine raffle and food hampers.
A range of clothes, gifts, children’s toys, books and a ‘fantastic’ plant stall also attracted the crowds.
Church spokeswoman Maggie Donovan said: “The event was very well attended and as always there were fabulous cream teas- world famous in Whitchurch – and a coincidental flypast by the Red Arrows to put the finishing touch to the day.
“Thank you to many of the people of Whitchurch who supported the event which raised a tremendous £2,124!”
