A TEAM of friends took on a fundraising walk in aid of loved ones who have suffered from dementia.

The group of 15, named The Forget Me Nots, took on a five-mile trek as part of an Alzheimers Society Memory Walk on October 13.

Kerry Morris, who set up the fundraising walk said: “Initially I set the walk up in memory of my nan Beryl Manley who very sadly suffered from dementia for ten years. We nursed her as a family but in 1993 we lost the grandmother, mother, wife and friend who we loved dearly. I was also a carer for many years and cared for probably hundreds of people with this crippling condition which robs people of their memory, their choices, their dignity and eventually their lives.

“We were all walking for our loved one who has suffered from, or is still suffering from Alzheimer’s and some of us had pictures of them clipped to our T-shirts which we bought from the Alzheimer’s Society as part of the fundraising.”

Initially the team pledged to raise £200, but ended with a total of £1,152.93.

Kerry added: “Our lovely team included teenagers and pensioners alike as well as our dogs. It was a beautiful day and a great opportunity to get out and socialise and get some exercise. We are very pleased to have raised so much to help others and would like to thank all who supported and sponsored us. We hope to make this an annual event and would love to have more walkers on board next year.”
