AN AFTER-school club got creative to raise money in honour of fallen soldiers.

Children from Shipton Buddies in Shipton Bellinger decorated poppies which were made into a cross and donations were given by friends, family and community members.

On November 2 the group was visited by Tidworth mayor Councillor Mark Connelly, Royal British Legion community fundraiser for North Tidworth Jim Park and Tidworth Help for Heroes representative Gerry Kneale.

The occasion saw cheques presented to the two charities by youngsters from the club.

Manager Amanda Smitheman said: “Thank you all for visiting us, taking our cross for your display and accepting our donations to your charities.

“Also thank you to all children, parents/carers and young adults for your support and good ideas. We will remember them.”

Shipton Buddies has been running since 2006 and was set up by Hampshire County Council and Shipton Bellinger Primary School.
