AN ANDOVER shopping centre has gone for gold by going green.
The Chantry Centre has won the GOLD Environment Award in the Green Apple Awards, which aims to find the greenest individuals, companies, councils and communities.
The centre competed against more than 800 other nominations for Environmental Best Practice with its project, Energy Management.
They were presented with their trophy and certificate at a glittering presentation ceremony hosted by MP Liz Kendall at the Houses of Parliament on November 12.
As a result of this Green Apple Award success, The Chantry Centre team has been invited to have its winning paper published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice, so that others around the world can follow their example.
Centre manager Steve Cotney said: “We take environmentally friendly practices very seriously at the Chantry Centre.
“This [award] is due to the excellent work that the team do on a daily basis to ensure our daily activities are done in an environmentally friendly way.
“We’re proud to be part of green best practice and hope our sustainable tasks and processes can inspire others.”
