A PUB landlady is thanking her customers for helping to raise thousands of pounds for charity in 2018.

Anne Evans, who has run the Foresters Arms in London Street for 12 years, has made it her mission for the pub to be dedicated to helping good causes.

Each year, the pub chooses a dedicated charity to raise funds for, alongside taking part in national campaigns to help those in need.

In 2018, £4,357 was collected for charities such as Naomi House, while there was also a focus on raising funds for Parkinson’s research due to several of the regulars’ parents being diagnosed with the disease.

The Foresters Arms also annually participates in Movember, Macmillan Coffee Morning and Race For Life.

Anne said: “I want to say thanks to our customers and regulars. I organise it all, but it’s the people who come and spend the money that get the results. Thanks to everyone that comes in month after month.”

Due to the various events that Anne organises, she says the pub has seen even more visitors, especially for the quiz nights.

Although there is one occasion that always stands out as the most enjoyable. Anne added: “Movember is always the most fun. we have such a crazy lot in hear, all sort of ex-rugby players you can imagine the fun we have.”

Alongside working to help various charities, the pub helps support causes close to the hearts of customers.

Anne said: “We also held a memorial pool competition earlier this month for two of our former customers.

“It’s an annual event set up after Sir Jim Moore passed away in 2014.”

The dedicated charity fundraising efforts are starting again for 2019, with a different chosen charity in mind to benefit this time around.

This year, the Foresters efforts will go towards supporting Winton House Nursing Home, in Nether Wallop, which has a specialist dementia care wing to help care for those with complex needs.

The aim in mind is to help provide specialist dolls to aid those who have dementia.

The first fundraising event of 2019 will be a quiz night, taking place on Tuesday, February 5. Anyone is welcome to turn up on the evening, which will cost £1 per person to enter. Half the money will go to the winner and the rest to charity.
