A MAYOR from Nepal visited the area this week to find out more about local government.

Man Bahadur, mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City, came to Andover on a trip facilitated by chairman of the Nepalese Community Roj Gurung on Monday.

During the visit, Mr Bahadar attended Test Valley Borough Council’s offices at Beech Hurst where he and members of his government met with Councillor Ian Carr and leader Phil North.

In the afternoon, a tea was hosted by Cllr Carr in the Mayor’s Parlour at The Guildhall.

The meeting was a chance to cement relationships further between the town and the homeland of Andover’s large Nepalese population.

On Tuesday, Mr Bahadur travelled to Tidworth to meet town mayor, Mark Connolly, and council representatives.

Mr Connolly said: “They wanted to talk about local government and how it works in Wiltshire and the town council.

“It was really interesting, they were asking questions and were engaged with the information.”

Along with Andover, Tidworth also has a large Nepalese community of serving and retired Gurkhas.

It is hoped that following the visit, Tidworth will be able to create stronger links with Pokhara, with the potential of the two becoming twinned in the future.
