THERE was a sea of yellow and green when pupils joined forces to raise more than £2,000 for an air ambulance service.

Youngsters and teachers across Andover took part in fundraising on Friday last week for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA).

The event was organised by Sam Turner, after a successful debut last year.

Sam said: “Thank you to all the schools and parents who took part, if it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t raise the money that we have.”

Sam also collects, counts and banks the donations, but she says it is “worth everything for the charity”.

During the day children dressed up in their favourite yellow and green outfits, with one pupil even dressing as a paramedic.

At Portway Infants School, the theme was taken a step further as pupils enjoyed helicopter-shaped cookies.

Sara Allen, headteacher, said: “The air ambulance has touched so many of our friends and loved ones and we wanted to find a way of saying thank you. It is a lovely community event for schools to get together and have a shared non-uniform day.”
