EMERGENCY services have closed part of the A303 following a serious car crash this afternoon.

The incident took place on the westbound carriageway, east of solstice park, near Amesbury.

The road has been closed between the junction for the A338 (Cholderton) and the A345 (Amesbury) to allow the emergency services to attend the scene.

Police and the ambulance service are reported to be in attendance, including critical care paramedics from the air ambulance.

Tailbacks are being reported on both the dual-carriageway back past the Cholderton junction, and also on the stretch of Amesbury Road that joins Cholderton to the A303.

Motorists are being asked to find alternative routes and avoid the area.

A diversion has been set up via the A338 and then the A345.

More as we have it.
