RESIDENTS and management at an Andover care home have paid tribute to the ‘compassion and commitment’ of its nursing staff in celebration of International Nurse’s Day.

This year the occasion, held on Tuesday, May 12, coincided with the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale, widely regarded as the founder of modern nursing.

It is a day to recognise the important work and dedication of care givers who often go above and beyond the call of duty.

And residents at Rothsay Grange care home, in Weyhill Road, were happy to get involved by hosting a much deserved Tea Party with fresh cream cakes from local bakery Burbidge’s.

To mark the bicentennial of Nightingale’s birth, the World Health Organization has designated 2020 as the first ever global Year of the Nurse and Midwife.

This theme is even more relevant in this unprecedented time, and the care home’s management say they are incredibly proud to applaud their extraordinary efforts and commitment on this special day of recognition.

General manager Jessica Salway said: “At Rothsay Grange, our nurses and staff are hard-working, dedicated, and passionate about caring for others, and that compassion and commitment has shone through even more these past few weeks. They continue to work tirelessly, and I’m proud of the professionalism and duty of care they uphold.

“All their efforts are focused on creating an enjoyable environment for our residents, so it’s nice to take this time to show our appreciation in return.”

Enid, a resident at Rothsay Grange Nursing Home, said: “The staff here spend so much time and energy looking after us, it’s been lovely to show just how much we appreciate them, they do a smashing job.”

Amanda Cussen, who is a nurse at the home, said: “I joined the profession to make a difference to those who need it most and I am proud to be able to deliver high quality care those who have given so much to us over the years.

“I really hope more young people join this worthwhile profession and become nurses.”
