A WEATHER warning for snow and ice has been issued in Andover.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning with wintry showers set to fall across the region tonight.

The warning comes into force from midnight on bank holiday Monday (December 28) morning, and lasts until 6pm that evening.

The yellow warning covers much of Southern England including mid and northern Hampshire.

It also covers Somerset, northern Dorset, Wiltshire, Sussex, London, the Midlands and Wales.

The Met Office warning says: "Rain may turn to snow, which along with widespread ice, will lead to the potential for some disruption to travel and utilities."

What to expect:

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

A yellow warning means that the weather will cause "some low level impacts, including some disruption to travel in a few places".

"Many people may be able to continue with their daily routine, but there will be some that will be directly impacted and so it is important to assess if you could be affected."

A second warning for snow and ice has been issued for much of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England, which comes into force at 3pm today and lasts until 10am tomorrow.

It comes just after Storm Bella hit the region on Boxing Day.

Strong winds and heavy rain battered Hampshire overnight, with power cuts in Andover and Odiham.
