We invited people who follow the Advertiser’s Facebook page to tell us why they love living in Andover.

The Army town is an emotion for lots of readers. Each Andoverian is proud of its natural beauty, history and legacy.

Following are a few of the comments that reveal the charm of the town.

Beautiful Lakes

Many readers cited the town’s lakes and country surrounds as the things they love the most.

One reader wrote: “The 3 beautiful lakes we are lucky to have, and all the magical woodlands.”

Another person said he loves the walks to the lakes. A third reader said: “We are very lucky (if we are able to get out) especially in these awful times.”

Andover has a number of lakes in and around the town. Anton Lakes, Charlton Lakes and Mill Lake are all favourite places for a walk for Andover residents.

History

Andover's history is equally deep-rooted and enchanting. 

Andover residents know the town is steeped in history. Its first mention in history is in AD950 when King Edred is recorded as having built a royal hunting lodge here.

It is also home to RAF Andover, which was opened on Andover Airfield during the First World War.

One reader wrote: “It’s quirkiness, it’s history, and it’s potential [is the best thing about Andover].”

Proximity

Andover residents know its transport links are a great selling point. You have easy access to both the A34, A303 and M3, enabling you to head to either London or the south west with ease.

During the 18th century, being on the main Exeter–Salisbury–London road, Andover was a refuelling or overnight stop for stagecoaches and other passing trade.

One person said their favourite thing about Andover was its location, writing: “So central to other towns and country side all around and only 3 hours to Cornwall.”

Community spirit

Community spirit is important for any local areas. For people in Andover, the feeling of belonging is probably more than the neighbourhoods around.

Like a big giant family, the residents of Andover live a community-focussed life. A reader wrote: "It’s community spirit and connections to travel elsewhere [that I love most about Andover].”

Special places

For many residents, there are special buildings and places which make our town unlike any other. 

Readers also highlighted a number of special places that truly makes Andover home for them. One reader said St. Mary’s Church in Church Close as their most-loved place in Andover, while another said The Royal Oak pub in Clatford as their favourite location.
