An Andover home which was gutted by a fire in 2018 is set to go under the hammer next week.

56 King George Road was almost entirely destroyed in the fire in 2018, which saw all floors fully alight. Firefighters battled the flames, and prevented it from spreading to other houses in the terrace.

The property is now set to go up for auction on March 25 with a guide price of £46,000 plus fees.

Firefighters were first called to the address at 1:11am on Friday, July 6 2018, where a fire had taken hold in the property, spreading to the entire building. People living nearby were ordered to leave their homes, with eyewitnesses saying the fire was “horrific”.

“There was just blue and orange smoke coming from the top and bottom windows,” one told the Advertiser. “Flames were just gushing out, then it was bang, bang, bang and the windows had blown.”

Another neighbour said: “It was like from a film, there was flames pouring out, there were flames coming from the roof and the windows – it was like fireworks, all noises going off.”

Fire engines attended the incident from Andover, Sutton Scotney, Winchester, Stockbridge, and also from over the border in Wiltshire.

In the two and a half years since the fire, the building has sat empty, with boarded up windows and charred timbers a reminder of the terrible events of 2018.

Now, the property is set to be auctioned off to the highest bidder in “an extremely rare opportunity”, who suggest restoring it to its “former glory.”

SDL Property Auctions said: “The property has unfortunately been ravaged by fire and been left with significant fire damage. The property is now available to purchase and for the highest bidder it offers an opportunity to restore the property to its once former glory, it also offers the new owner an opportunity to add significant value to the property by completing the necessary scheme of works that is required.

“Once the works are completed, you will have a three bedroom terraced family home situated on the King George Road development.”

“Benefits in brief include lounge/diner, refitted kitchen, three bedrooms and family bathroom to first floor, a rear garden, off road parking all this coupled with a superb setting in a popular residential location close to Andover Train Station.”

The home will be under the hammer on Thursday, March 25 in a virtual auction, details of which can be found here: https://www.sdlauctions.co.uk/property/28704/terraced-house-for-auction-andover/
