A ROUNDABOUT in Andover was closed this afternoon (March 24) after a lorry tipped on its side, at the exit onto Churchill Way West.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 1pm, to reports of that a HGV had flipped onto its side.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews were called to the scene and assisted with making the scene safe.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Firefighters from Andover were called to the Portway roundabout, Churchill Way West, Andover, at 13:33 today where one HGV was on its side.

"Crews made the scene safe using clay mats for environmental protection and handed the incident over to the police. The stop came in at 14:13."

Hampshire Constabulary told the Advertiser: "Officers attended Churchill Way West after we received a report of a lorry overturning around 1.30pm today (March 24).

"No injuries have been reported, the lorry was the only vehicle involved in the incident."

According to a witness at the scene, the FFB Haulage Ltd vehicle was carrying ceramic tiles.

Traffic delays lasted much of the afternoon and early evening, with one lane of Churchill Way West, northbound, closed initially, and then the entire roundabout closed while the vehicle was recovered.

Meanwhile, the Britax exit onto the roundabout was also blocked.

After extensive preparations, the recovery team were able to lift the lorry into an upright position using two crane vehicles, shortly after 5.30pm.

At 6pm, when our reporter left the scene, Churchill Way West remained closed but the roundabout had reopened to traffic.
