An Andover business is backing a national campaign to raise money in honour of Captain Sir Tom Moore.

Inspired by the NHS fundraiser’s heroic efforts, lift service company Stannah is calling on people to do 100 ‘anythings’ to raise money for charity as part of the ‘Captain Tom 100’ charity challenge.

Whether it’s 100 push-ups or baking 100 cupcakes, Andover residents are encouraged to help raise money for The Captain Tom Foundation which has three core objectives: combating loneliness, championing education and equality, and providing support to the NHS.

The event will take place on Friday, April 30, which would have been Captain Tom’s 101st birthday.

Stannah’s managing director, Patrick Stannah, said: “We are honoured to support The Captain Tom Foundation and its wonderful ‘100 things’ challenge. Captain Sir Tom’s lasting legacy of positivity, courage and support for those in need lives on through the charity’s remarkable work.

“We’re incredibly proud to have called Captain Sir Tom a valued customer; he inspired all who worked with him, just as he roused a whole nation at a challenging time.”

Captain Tom Moore captured the nations hearts during the coronavirus pandemic by walking 100 lengths of his garden. Having initially aimed to raised £1000, by the time of his passing the money he raised totalled £32.8 million.

In his memory, Stannah will also donate a proportion of sales between April 19 and May 9 to The Captain Tom Foundation, which was set up in his name by his family.

Hannah Ingram-Moore, Captain Sir Tom’s daughter, said: “What happened to my father, Captain Sir Tom, in 2020 was truly extraordinary and we were so buoyed by the support we were shown from far and wide which gave him renewed purpose and energy.

“We remain incredibly grateful to our friends at Stannah who continue to support us to help ensure my father’s message of hope lives on through The Captain Tom Foundation. Together we really can make sure tomorrow will be a good day.”

Stannah has also created downloadable, printable sheets for people to record their efforts and to help spread the word, which can be found at: stannah.co.uk/lifestyle/10-ways-to-give-loved-ones-and-your-local-community-a-little-lift/.
