MOST people expect to be able to do their job without getting assaulted – unfortunately this is not always the case if you are an emergency service worker.

In just April and May alone seven criminals in Hampshire have been guilty of doing just that, leading in some cases to a spell in prison.

Among those found guilty was Alexis Meek of Grenfell Road, Mitcham, who was ordered to pay £460 in fines and compensation for assaulting and racially abusing police officers in Southampton.

On October 14, 2020 the 25-year-old assaulted three police officers and used racially threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards two police officers in Southampton.

On top of the £460 fine, a community order was made for the defendant to comply with rehabilitation activity.

Martin Robert Mackenzie of Kings Road, Basingstoke, assaulted a female police officer in Southampton in March of this year.

The 31-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined £339 at West Hampshire Magistrates' Court on April 13.

Another facing Hampshire's magistrates courts over the past two months been 40-year-old Sarah Jane McGarva, Beauleigh Road, Eastleigh.

She was guilty of assaulting PC Thomas Briggs and PC Kristien Stephens by beating them in Alton, on November 19 last year, and was ordered to pay £100 in compensation.

On May 14, Daniel Peter Barr of Northam Road, Southampton appeared at North Hampshire Magistrates' Court.

The 28-year-old was guilty of assaulting two prison officers Deklan Tanner and Georgina Hurst, at Winchester on January 6, 2020.

He was ordered to pay £695 in compensation, victim services and Crown Prosecution Services.

A community order was also made requiring the defendant to participate in an accredited programme for 21 days on thinking skills and rehabilitation activity.

Macari Fullard, 21, was sentenced to six weeks in prison after a ‘serious’ and ‘deliberate attack’ on two detective constables.

On March 17, Fullard assaulted DC Timothy Mcspadden and DC Daniel Platt in Basingstoke.

Alongside his six-week prison sentence the defendant was ordered to pay £100 in compensation.

Jacob Lee Woodford, aged 28, pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause alarm, distress or harassment to Charlotte Sweet at Southampton General Hospital.

Woodford also pleaded guilty to assaulting PC Hanson by beating him at Southampton General Hospital.

The 28-year-old from Benhams Road, Southampton was given a community order where he must comply with a rehabilitation activity requirement and ordered to pay £200. Top of Form

William John Aris of Holland Gardens, Fleet pleaded guilty to assaulting Philip Welch at Aldershot Railyway station on October 7, last year.

He was ordered to pay £244 in fines, compensation and to fund victim services and Crown Prosecution Service.
