AN ANDOVER resident is accusing binmen of threatening him and his partner, and refusing to empty his bin despite repeated pleas.

Alex Meinel, whose house is on Marjoram in Sedge Road also said he had nothing but problems with Test Valley Borough Council.

However, he said the binmen are treating just his home differently, while his neighbours’ bins are emptied regularly.

“This is only happening to me because the bin men have a grudge because I stand up to them about not emptying the bins,” Mr Meinel told the Advertiser.

“They just won't empty them, and they keep putting the rubbish back into the bin and a sometimes they just drive off and don't bother doing it at all.

“I have been on the phone with the council every week for months on, trying to get them to come back and do it and all I keep getting is bad attitude and abuse. The driver and the supervisor keep coming face to face with me and constantly trying to give reasons to get out of emptying the bins.

“They are taking working people’s money that we pay to them to empty the bins and they are doing nothing for it which is the council tax money and they always give excuses to not empty the bins.

“All they keep doing is tagging the bins and not emptying them it's so disgusting.

“They have even told me to move because they don't want to empty the bins.”

Mr Meinel also accused the binmen of threatening his family.

“They have sent people round to my home address to threaten me and my partner, which I will not tolerate. Its vile and disgusting behaviour.”

When contacted about the problem, TVBC’s environmental portfolio holder, councillor Alison Johnston, said: “Whilst we cannot comment on individual residents and cases, where repeatedly overflowing or contaminated bins are put out for collection, our environmental teams will always work directly with residents and offer advice to try and sort the issue.

“Unfortunately, cross-contamination can cost hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayers’ money, which is why we’re keen to reduce this as much as we can but we always aim to work proactively with residents on what and where materials can be recycled in an attempt to make everyone’s life a little bit easier!”
