An Andover crew is among those called to a fire of 50 tonnes of hay burning near the A303 in Cholderton.

Crews from Wilton were called to the scene just before 8am this morning, with a water carrier from Andover also attending to support the operation.

A statement from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are currently dealing with approximately 50 tonnes of hay bales alight near Cholderton off the A303.

"Crews from Salisbury, Wilton and Gillingham are there along with the Andover water carrier. 

"The call came in at 06:13 this morning and crews are still on scene tackling the fire using hay drags, hose reel jets and mechanical assistance."

Wilton Fire Station has tweeted an update on the incident, along with pictures from the scene.

Wilton added: "Spare a thought for relief crews".
