There will be cake and coffee aplenty as a Weyhill care home is set to host a fundraising event for a local charity.

Rothsay Grange Care Home, located on Weyhill Road, is set to host a high tea in its grounds for Andover and District Mencap. It is to take place on Monday, August 16, with all proceeds going straight to the charity.

Iris Andersen, the president of Andover Mencap, told the Advertiser: “I’m really, really pleased we’re able to have this event for our supporters, and we’re all looking forward to the day.”

Andover Mencap supports individuals with learning disabilities and their families, enabling them to live independent lives as much as possible. One of its services is the Rainbow Corner, which provides respite care for children and young adults between three and 19 years old.

There are regularly fundraisers for the charity, with six-year-old Florence Rist organising her own bake sale to support Mencap earlier this year.

The high tea will be held at Rothsay Grange on August 16 from 2-4pm, providing guests with afternoon tea consisting of homemade scones with cream and jam, finger sandwiches and hot and cold refreshments; all of which will be served by the home’s catering team.

The guests will also be treated to live entertainment from George & Ginger, a local duo that sing songs through the ages and promise to get the audience up on their feet, as well as a raffle.

A spokesperson for Rothsay Grange said: “We always like to get involved in community projects so when we were approached by friend of Rothsay Grange and Mencap president Iris Andersen, we couldn’t wait to get involved.

“Everyone is hoping it will be a fantastic afternoon, bringing in some much needed funds for the charity.”

Tickets are £5 and all proceeds will go towards supporting the work of Andover Mencap. To book your place for the afternoon, call Rothsay Grange on 01264 772898 or Andover Mencap on 01264 321840. Alternatively, email rothsay@barchester.com
