AUGUST so far has been a month of grey cloud, rain and mild. As we approach the end of the last month of summer, what does August have in store for Hampshire?

Weather experts at the Met Office have been giving details on how they think the month will pan out.

Over the next week weather across Hampshire is likely to consist of rain showers and thunder but the temperature will remain warm and humid.

But a heatwave might not be off the cards yet.

The latest long range forecast from the weather experts shows that there is "an increasing possibility that some very warm spells may develop” over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

From next week, weather in Hampshire is looking set to turn dry and less humid with sunny spells.

However there remains the possibility of “thundery showers” in places.

The average maximum temperature for an August day in Hampshire is around 21.9°C so for heatwave conditions to be met in Hampshire, the county would need to see temperatures of 27°C or above for three days running.

Here is the full forecast.

Today:

Occasional light rain and drizzle, most likely this afternoon for areas north of London and also across Kent. Many places will remain dry, but also cloudy with only limited bright spells. Breezy, especially along the coast. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Tonight:

Overcast with the wind easing light, and patchy light rain and drizzle becoming more widespread across the region, although some places may remain dry. Minimum temperature 13 °C.

Wednesday:

Generally cloudy but becoming dry, as most of the initial patchy light rain and drizzle gradually dies away. Some bright spells may develop. Feeling slightly warmer with lighter winds. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Thursday showers spreading east, becoming heavy at times with a chance of thunder. Friday mainly dry and cloudy, some bright spells. Sunny spells Saturday, perhaps heavy showers later, rather warm.

Saturday 21 August - Monday 30 August

Remaining unsettled through the weekend with showers and longer spells of rain at times, but also with some drier conditions with sunshine too. Feeling humid and rather warm.

Through the new week it is likely to become drier and less humid from the north with sunny spells. Thereafter there is a signal for settled conditions to become more dominant across most areas with largely dry weather.

However there still remains the possibility of showers in places, with perhaps some longer spells of rain in the north or northwest. Temperatures are expected to be around average, although there is an increasing possibility that some very warm spells may develop later in the period. This may also bring the chance of thundery showers, especially in the south.
