Tributes have been paid to a Barton Stacey man who was killed following a car crash in Barton Stacey.

Oliver Gadney passed away following an incident on an unnamed road known locally as Newton Lane between Barton Stacey and Newton Stacey at around 3.30pm on August 15.

The 45-year-old, who was riding his bike at the time, was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Astra and was pronounced dead at the roadside.

Paying tribute to the Greenacres resident, his family said: “He was a beloved father, husband, brother, son, grandson, uncle, nephew and loyal friend who was lost too soon.

“He lived life to the full. He was funny, intelligent, kind and humble.

“His legacy lives on in his two girls.

“He will never be forgotten.”

A 21-year-old Hampshire woman was arrested on suspicion of death by careless driving and causing death by driving a vehicle while unlicensed or uninsured following the incident.

She has been released under investigation while officers continue their enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses and dash camera footage to come forward, with a spokesperson saying: “We continue to appeal for witnesses who saw the incident or may have dash-cam footage of it to call us on 101 or report information online, quoting 44210325082.”

The death follows another collision within the past month, which saw another cyclist lose their life.

70-year-old James Tassell from Barlows Lane, Andover, was taken to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance after a crash involving a Vauxhall Vectra and his bike on July 23. Sadly, he passed away from his injuries on July 28.

The car driver, an 81-year-old man from Whitchurch, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been released under police investigation.
