AN ANDOVER schoolgirl has braved a big chop and donated 40cm of hair to a charity which makes wigs for unwell young people.

Seven-year-old Evie McGinn has been growing her hair for several years, only ever having it trimmed, and decided to finally face the big chop for a good cause.

The brave youngster, who lives on Colenzo Drive and attends Balksbury school, was eager to help other children, and has been pleased with the swell of support from friends and family.

Her mum, Clare, told the Advertiser: “Evie found out about the Little Princess Trust maybe two years ago and always said that when she had her hair cut she would donate it to them.

“She understands that the charity makes wigs for boys and girls who have lost their own hair through cancer treatments and other conditions. She asked at the end of the last school term if she could have her hair cut and donate her hair.”

Evie not only donated three lots of 40cm donations of hair to the charity, but also set up a fundraising page which has now exceeded £1,000 in donations.

Clare added: “Some friends then asked if she would be collecting sponsorship for it. Evie asked what this was and we explained it all to her and she asked us to set it up for her.

“It has raised more than we could ever have imagined. We are so proud of her and she is so pleased that she is able to help other boys and girls to make them happy at a difficult time in their lives. “
